Long, long ago there lived a wicked man on Chowra Island by the name of Kamasoon. He always used his supernatural powers against the people of his community. Fed up of his evil actions, one day the people of Chowra chopped off his head and threw it in the forest.

After a few days a tree grew out of his skull with fruits resembling human skulls. After this the water in Chowra wells slowly turned sour. People suffered from thirst but could not quench it with the water of the wells. Finally, one man became so ill that he was about to die. People got angry and taking the tree to be the cause of their misery, they attacked it with sticks and stones.

In the melee, a fruit fell down and broke open and a water-like liquid came out of it. The people tasted it and were surprised to find it to their liking. They took another fruit and broke it open and poured the liquid into the mouth of the sick man who recovered from his sickness immediately. This is how the palm tree was born in Chowra.

The man who was hated by all, thus, sacrificed his life to win their love.
