About
The Centre for Contemporary Folklore (CCF) is a flagship venture of ParrotHouse Foundation for Folklore Preservation, a not-for-profit organization registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.
CCF is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating India’s rich oral and cultural traditions of folklore. Our mission is to uncover and bring to light stories passed down through generations, celebrating their quiet presence amidst the vibrant evolution of today’s dynamic cultural landscape.
India boasts a rich cultural heritage steeped in oral traditions, from folklore and legends to songs and dance. These cultural gems are a testament to our shared humanity and the enduring aspects of the human experience. At CCF, we believe that folklore is not a static, archaic element of the past but a living and evolving part of our culture. As stories are spun and retold, they continue to shape the world we live in and the lives of those who inhabit it.
Our Approach
Our approach is multifaceted, focusing on dissemination, preservation, and advocacy. In our attempts to preserve and archive Indian folktales, we hope to expand our project and collaborate with communities nationwide to collect, record, and catalog folklore with academic rigor, utilizing both digital platforms and traditional archival methods.
Additionally, CCF works with a vision to bridge the gaps between scholarly inquiry and community-based knowledge systems, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge exchange. Through our small but steady efforts, we strive to contribute to the development of innovative methodologies for documenting, analyzing, and interpreting Indian folk narratives, maintaining cultural continuity, fostering social cohesion, promoting intergenerational dialogue, and preserving linguistic diversity.
Despite the abundance of online resources, there is a significant absence of a centralized platform for folk knowledge in India. This lack of a single repository limits access to comprehensive folk content, hindering efforts to document, preserve, and promote these important traditions. At CCF, we strive to fill this gap and ensure that the traditions, beliefs, and customs that have shaped India’s cultural identity for generations are not forgotten.
Committed to preserving this crucial part of our cultural heritage, the Centre for Contemporary folklore hopes to ensure that the invaluable traditions of India’s folklore continue to thrive and inspire future generations.
