Fund the Folk!

Because culture has no backup drive
i

Even the smallest seed can become a sacred grove. Similarly the smallest donations can help keep the voice of Indian folklore alive. Join us and revive one tale, one tune, one memorable journey down lost tales at a time.

Any amount big or small- your support becomes a story in our collection. It keeps our archive growing and our preservation efforts going.

WHY DONATE?

India has a rich tapestry of folklore—stories whispered by grandparents on quiet evenings, songs echoing through village squares, and rituals woven into the fabric of our daily lives. These narratives carry our history, our values, and our collective imagination. But many of these cherished traditions are slowly fading.

At the Centre for Contemporary Folklore (CCF), we believe in the power of community and the importance of keeping these traditions alive. By collaborating with us, you become part of a growing movement to preserve, promote, and celebrate the diverse folk cultures of India. Together with communities across the country, we document folktales, songs, and cultural practices—each one a vital thread in the story of who we are.

Your support helps ensure that future generations can experience the enchantment of these traditions. Let’s work together to keep our cultural heritage thriving

Your donations directly fund in-house illustrations, digital archives, podcasts, and community excavators who collect stories. We believe in full transparency—every rupee is rooted in preserving heritage.

Your donations are tax deductible under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act

What we’re working on:

🗂️ Indian Folk Archives

We are building a comprehensive digital repository of Indian folk narratives. This archive brings together documented stories from across the country and categorizes them for easy access and research. A special feature of the project is our Originally Sourced Stories section, where we collaborate with local communities to document oral traditions that have never been recorded before- giving voice to regional histories that often go unheard.

🌿 Articles & Wisdom Repository

Our digital library of articles includes in-depth articles exploring folklore and its intersections with modern life, identity, and environment. Alongside this, the Wisdom Repository offers concise, thought-provoking insights into folk culture. Both are curated by our editorial team, featuring contributions from writers, scholars, and community practitioners.

🌳 The Environmental Book Project

Our team is curating an illustrated anthology of environmentally themed folktales, titled ‘Whispers of Nature.’ The stories are carefully selected from each state and union territory in India, bringing together a collection of 36 illustrated stories of the diverse Indian terrain.

Each folktale will be paired with contextual write-ups that offer insights into the environmental wisdom embedded within, revealing how cultural heritage and storytelling have historically played a role in conservation practices. And a glossary key is provided to support readers across cultural differences.

🦜 The ParrotHouse Podcast

The ParrotHouse is a podcast that dives into India’s rich landscapes of folklore. Each episode, narrated in a storytelling format, brings to light lesser-known folklore from diverse regions of India, merging additional informative context with engaging storytelling.

With episodes lasting just 10-15 minutes, listeners embark on crisp, fascinating journeys through India’s cultural past, designed to entertain, educate, and inspire a deeper appreciation for India’s intangible heritage. Season 1 is now streaming on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and other major streaming platforms.

Season 2 is now in development.

🪞 Folk & Femme

Folk & Femme’ is a collaborative multimedia play with Parwana Theatre, centered on the intimate and shared experiences of women through folk stories, songs, and traditional food recipes.

Focusing on stories from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, the play will highlight women’s experiences of key life moments. By weaving folk stories and music with real-life narratives, the project will explore themes of caste, gender, and displacement, showing how women create “home” wherever they are, not just through physical spaces but through food, culture, and shared memory.

🐂 Kodi Book Project

This is a creative anthology that brings together a curated selection of folk stories from the lush Kodaikanal, in Tamil Nadu, reimagined through vibrant illustrations and thoughtful storytelling.

Whether you’re a storyteller, researcher, artist, or culture enthusiast, we welcome your collaboration and interest. Together, we can bring these stories to light and ensure they continue to inspire generations to come.
