Welcome to the website of the Centre for Contemporary Folklore (“CCF,” “ParrotHouse,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), operated by ParrotHouse Foundation for Folklore Preservation, a Section 8 non-profit company registered under the Companies Act, 2013. By accessing or using this website (the “Site”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. About Us

The Centre for Contemporary Folklore is a non-profit initiative dedicated to documenting, preserving, and reimagining India’s oral folk traditions, and to building sustainable economic infrastructure for folk artists and practitioners. Our work includes the Indian Folk Archive, Community Folklore Archive, the ParrotHouse Podcast, Illustrated Folktales, the Wisdom Repository, publications and articles, and fellowship and incubation programs.

2. Use of the Site

You agree to use this Site only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of, or restrict or inhibit the use and enjoyment of the Site by, any third party. You may not:

  • Use the Site to distribute unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or infringing material
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Site, server, or database connected to it
  • Scrape, harvest, or systematically extract content from the Site without our prior written consent
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Site’s functionality or security

3. User Accounts

Certain features of the Site (such as commenting or newsletter management) may require you to create an account or log in.

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account
  • You agree to provide accurate information when creating an account
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms
  • If you forget your password, you may use the Site’s password reset function; we are not responsible for unauthorised access resulting from your failure to secure your credentials

4. Intellectual Property

4.1 Our Content

Unless otherwise stated, all content on this Site — including text, articles, story transcriptions, illustrations, audio (including podcast episodes), video, flipbooks, journal content, logos, and design elements — is the property of ParrotHouse Foundation for Folklore Preservation or its licensors, and is protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

4.2 Folk Content and Community Contributions

Many stories, narratives, and cultural materials featured on this Site originate from oral traditions, community storytellers, and folk artists. Where such material is shared with attribution to a community, region, or individual contributor, that attribution reflects the source of the tradition and does not constitute a transfer of any underlying cultural or intellectual property rights held by that community or individual. CCF is committed to ethical documentation practices, including seeking appropriate consent and providing attribution wherever practicable.

4.3 Limited License to Users

You may view, download, and share content from this Site for personal, educational, and non-commercial purposes, provided you retain all copyright and attribution notices. Any other use — including reproduction, adaptation, commercial use, or redistribution — requires our prior written permission. To request permission or report a concern about use of community-sourced material, contact us at contact@centreforcontemporaryfolklore.org.

5. User Submissions

If you submit stories, comments, media, or other content through the Site’s “Share a Folklore” feature or otherwise (“Submissions”), you agree that:

  • You own the Submission or have the right to share it
  • You grant CCF a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, adapt, publish, and display the Submission in connection with our archival, educational, and promotional work, with attribution where appropriate
  • You will not submit content that is unlawful, infringing, or that misrepresents its origin or ownership
  • We may, at our discretion, decline to publish or may remove any Submission

6. Donations (“Fund the Folk”)

  • All donations made through the Site are processed through third-party payment gateways; we do not store your payment card details
  • Donations are, where applicable, eligible for tax benefits under Indian law (e.g., Section 80G); receipts will be issued as required
  • Donations are generally non-refundable except where required by law or at our discretion in cases of error

7. Art Store Purchases

The Site’s Art Store offers folklore-themed merchandise (such as illustrated apparel and the ParrotHouse Podcast Pocketbook) for purchase via a linked third-party order form.

  • Orders are processed through our third-party form and payment provider; we do not store your payment card details
  • Product images are representative; minor variations in colour or print may occur
  • Shipping timelines, costs, and any return or exchange terms will be communicated at the time of order or on the relevant order page

8. Programs, Fellowships, and Partnerships

Information about fellowships, incubation programs, residencies, or partnerships (“Work With Us”) on this Site is provided for general guidance and does not constitute a guarantee of selection, funding, or outcome. Program terms, eligibility, and selection criteria are governed by the specific guidelines published for each program and may change at our discretion.

9. Third-Party Links

The Site contains links to third-party websites and services (including social media platforms, JotForm order pages, and Google Forms). We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party sites, and linking to them does not imply endorsement.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or harmful components. Historical and cultural information is presented in good faith based on documentation and research but may be subject to differing community accounts and interpretations.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ParrotHouse Foundation for Folklore Preservation and its trustees, directors, employees, and volunteers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CCF/ParrotHouse Foundation, its officers, employees, and volunteers from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your use of the Site or violation of these Terms.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We will update the “Last updated” date above accordingly.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Delhi, India.
